Bike lifting gang busted, three arrested

The Odisha Police in Kandhamal district have seized as many as 27 bikes of different makes having duplicate and fake registration numbers and documents during checking drivers in the past three days.

The checking was held on the occasion of National Road Safety Week, Pravat Kumar Panigrahi, SDPO, Phulbani told reporters here today.

Three youth including a local man who was said to be the mastermind of the crime, have been arrested and forwarded to the jail after their bail petitions were rejected in the local SDJM court.

The trio was engaged in such crime of bike lifting since some years in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Khurda in an organised manner. They have confessed to their crime, Panigrahi said.
 

About two months ago, another bike lifting racket was busted at Balliguda in the district. Then, the police had recovered 48 bikes from different persons.
