Bill includes AU Town Planner, Chief Planner as CMDA members

A bill to amend the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971 and include a Professor in Town Planning from Anna University and the senior most Chief Planner of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) as members of the nodal planning agency was today introduced in the state assembly.

Housing and Urban Development Minister R Vaithilingam introduced the bill in the House, which follows the GO to include the Professor from the School of Architecture and Planning of Anna Univerisity and CMDA's senior most Chief Planner as the agency members.

Since the Member Secretary of CMDA has sent a proposal to amend sub section of Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971 for inclusion of the mentioned persons in the CMDA, the government has decided to amend it, the statement of objects and reasons of the bill, said.
 

The bill is being introduced in the aftermath of the collapse of a multi-storeyed building at Mouvlivakkam on June 28, in which more than 60 persons lost their lives.
