Biman Banerjee elected Bengal speaker for second term

Biman Banerjee was unanimously elected speaker of West Bengal state Assembly for the second term today.

Banerjee's name was proposed by deputy leader of the legislative party Partha Chatterjee and was supported by leaders of other legislative parties.

Banerjee has been the speaker since 2011 when Trinamool Congress came to power for the first time after defeating the 34-year-old Left regime.

The House will meet from June 17, when the Governor will address and the session continue for around 20 days.

The budget of the new government will also be placed during this session, Speaker Biman Banerjee said.
