The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum held the airline guilty of rendering deficient service and asked it to pay the sum, which included the TV's cost and compensation to Delhi resident and complainant Kirpal Singh.

"We hold opposite party (Biman Bangladesh) guilty of deficiency and direct it to pay Rs 31,000, the cost of LCD, to complainant (Singh) and we also award him Rs 10,000 as compensation towards harassment and litigation cost," a bench presided by C K Chaturvedi said.

The forum's order came on complaint of Tilak Nagar resident Singh, who said he had bought an LCD TV for Rs 31,000 from Bangkok and during his return journey on May 2, 2010, he had deposited it with the airline for transporting it back to India on the same flight that he was travelling in.

On reaching Delhi, he found that the TV had not arrived on the same flight and the airline informed him that it was lost in transit, he had said.

Singh had alleged that despite informing the airline authorities about the lost baggage, he was not compensated for the loss.

As the airline had not appeared before the forum to contest the complaint it was proceeded against ex-parte.
