A bird caused power outage across the US state of Texas after it got into the equipment of a substation leaving thousands of residents without electricity.

According to the Texas New Mexico Power Company, around 9,000 customers across League City, Dickinson and Texas City were affected by the mid-afternoon unplanned power outage yesterday.

Crews worked quickly to fix the outage, which lasted a few hours, the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) reported.

Dickinson residents were left to fend off the Houston heat without air conditioning, it said.

Some residents shared their frustrations saying this is not the first time their neighbourhood experienced a power outage like this one.
