A five-day Bird Festival will be organised at Pawalgad conservation reserve in Nainital district of Uttarakhand from February 4 next.

"The second edition of Uttrakhand Spring Bird Festival will be organised at Pawalgad conservation reserve near Jim Corbett National Park in Nainital district, from February 4 next year," Chief Forest Conservator (Ecotourism), Rajiv Bhartari said today.

During the festival, organised by the state government, 25 guides will provide information on birds to around 1,500 tourists in Kyaree, Sitabani, Pavalgad and Kaladhungi areas, he said, adding that the entry to festival is free.

According to Bhartari, the aim of the festival is to spread awareness about birds and importance of conservation among common people.

"We also intend to create employment through rural tourism and encourage bird guiding as a skill," he said.

The first Uttarakhand Spring Bird Festival was organised at Assan near here and had received overwhelming response.

Bhartari said that around 3,000 persons, including tourists, bird experts and bird lovers are expected to join the festival.
