'Birdman' wins top honour at Screen Actors Guild Awards

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's black comedy 'Birdman' has won the top prize at the 21st Screen Actors Guild Awards, bagging the trophy for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

The film beat coming-of-age drama 'Boyhood', whimsical comedy 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', historical thriller 'The Imitation Game' and Stephen Hawking's biopic 'The Theory of Everything' to win the award.

The Michael Keaton-starrer film recently won the best picture award at the Producer Guild of America Awards. It is tied with 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' at the upcoming 87th Oscars in the highest number of nominations with nine, including best picture.
 

Golden Globe-winner Julianne Moore won the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role for her role in 'Still Alice'.

Another Golden-Globe awardee, Eddie Redmayne bagged the trophy for outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role for portraying the physicist Hawking in film 'The Theory of Everything'.

J K Simmons won the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role for 'Whiplash', while actress Patricia Arquette bagged the trophy for outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role for 'Boyhood'.

'Orange Is The New Black' became the top earner among the television shows by bagging two trophies, including outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series and outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series, which was won by actress Uzo Aduba.

William H Macy for his role in 'Shameless' won the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series.

The award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series went to 'Downton Abbey'. Kevin Spacey won the honour for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series for his role in 'House of Cards'.

Viola Davis won the trophy for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series for 'How to Get Away with Murder'.
