Birinder Singh Sidhu today took over as the new DGP of Uttarakhand.
He succeeds Satyavrat Bansal who retired from office.
Sidhu, a 1979 batch IPS officer, was IG Rules and Manuals before taking over as the DGP.

Awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry by the President in 1992, Sidhu has served successful stints as the SP of some of the most communally sensitive districts of undivided Uttar Pradesh including Moradabad, Varanasi, Agra and Bareily.
He has also served as SSP of Saharanpur, Jhansi, Farookhabad, Banda and Meerut.
