"The areas of engineering, technology, medicine and basic sciences have to move hand in hand to achieve the goals of development, while higher educational institutions must prepare youths to play a creative role in service to humanity," she said.
Alva was addressing the convocation function of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) at Pilani in Jhunjhunu district.
A total of 992 graduating students of first degree, higher degree and PhD programmes were awarded degrees. BITS Vice- Chancellor Prof B N Jain presided.
