Bizman held with demonetised currency notes

A businessman from Kolhapur was arrested for allegedly possessing demonetised currency notes with the face value of Rs 66.39 lakh, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, we apprehended the accused - Mukesh Thakker - last night, when he was coming to Thane. We found him to be in possession of demonetised currency notes with the face value of Rs 66.39 lakh, Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-I D S Swamy told PTI.

The accused was arrested from Retibunder in Mumbra near here, the officer said.

11,599 demonetised notes of Rs 500 and 840 demonetised notes of Rs 1,000 were found in his possession. We have seized his car and a probe is on, said the the officer.
