The women's wing of both ruling BJD and opposition Congress today hit the streets separately protesting against the recent hike in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Leaders of the two parties criticised the Centre for raising the price of both subsidised and non-subsidised LPG cylinders.

"The women have been hit hard with the unexpected price rise. After the continuous hike in petrol and diesel prices, the Narendra Modi-led central government has targeted the cooking gas. We strongly condemn such move by the Centre," said BJD Mahila Morcha president Pramila Mallick.

She said the party will continue its protest till the price hike is not rolled back.

The prices of LPG were increased by Rs 2.34 and Rs 48 for subsidised and non-subsidised cylinders respectively.

Led by state Mahila Congress president Sasmita Behera, party workers staged demonstration with empty gas cylinders.
