"BJD is organising peaceful agitation against steep hike of diesel price and all problems related to cooking gas created by the Central Government," Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik told reporters here.
In the state capital, BJD workers demonstrated in front of the additional district magistrate's office here with empty gas cylinders.
"Our agitation will continue till the central government rolls back the hike in diesel price," said local MLA Bhagirathi Badjena.
The BJD also held demonstrations in the districts.
The party would not take part in the September 20 Bharat bandh called by the NDA, party vice-president Damodar Rout said as the day was celebrated as 'Nuakhai' festival in western parts of the state.
