Intensifying its attack on the BJD regime ahead of the Panchayat polls in Odisha, the BJP today accused the Naveen Patnaik government of having failed on all fronts and claimed that the healthcare and education sectors have collapsed in the state.

"Odisha is lagging far behind in development as the BJD government has failed in all sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, irrigation, power and housing," BJP state unit president Basant Panda said.

Hitting out at the ruling BJD, he said the state remained backward despite having abundant natural resources because of inefficiency and incompetence of the government and asked why Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik should not be blamed for tardy progress in the state.

Accusing the CM of making false promises and announcements, Panda said the state was witnessing growing unemployment as industrialisation has failed to pick up.

While 21 medium industrial units were set up in 15 years, three of them were shut down leaving only 18 functional, he said.

Dubbing the state government as insensitive towards the poor and deprived sections, the BJP leader alleged Patnaik to misled the people by making a false claim that ten lakh pucca houses have been provided to the poor people in two years.
Though around 70 per cent people in the state directly

or indirectly depend on agriculture, the farm sector was grossly neglected in the absence of adequate irrigation and cold storages, said Panda.

Slamming the BJD for often alleging about negligence by the Centre despite flow of huge funds to the state, the BJP leader said the ruling party has been targeting the Centre to hide its failure, inefficiency and incompetence. He also asked BJD to join a debate on the issue.

As governance took back seat, more than 40 per cent families in the state were yet to get electricity, while about 15,000 villages lack roads, he claimed.

"Primary education is in doldrums, badly affecting poor children," Panda said adding most schools lack adequate number of teachers.

Healthcare services have collapsed in the absence of adequate doctors and proper infrastructure in most government run hospitals in the state, the BJP leader said.

"There was no specialist in 87 per cent of the community health centres (CHC), while 57 per cent of the primary health centres (PHC) lack regular doctors," he said.

As many as 112 PHCs have no electricity supply, while 178 PHCs lack piped water facility, he said.

The BJP further claimed that the BJD has been winning successive elections as the main opposition Congress has remained ineffective.
