The meeting was held at Motu, near the confluence of Saberi and Sileru rivers, located at the border area of Odisha-Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
"We held the meeting at Motu close to Andhra Pradesh border to give a message to the Congress government there that Odisha did not require Polavaram project," School and Mass Education minister Rabi Narayan Nanda said.
He said thousands of primitive tribal families would be severely hit by the Polavaram project. The local tribals were also opposed to the project as it was being pushed without holding a proper public hearing, Nanda said.
Another minister Ramesh Majhi also addressed the gathering saying BJD would not allow submergence of tribal villages and forest in Malkangiri district.
"We will fight against the project which is against the interest of tribal people," Majhi said.
Besides Nanda and Majhi, Koraput MP Jairam Pangi and local MLAs attended the meeting and called upon tribals to oppose the project which would inundate villages and forests.
The project, if implemented, would inundate about 2,000 acre of land in Malkangiri district, they said, adding Odisha government had already moved the Supreme Court opposing it.
