The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today announced the launch of its 10-day long annual 'Jan Sampark Padayatra' across the state from October 2.

Announcing this here at a press conference, party MP Prasanna Acharya and former minister Debi Prasad Mishra said the party would raise the issue of Centre's neglect and Odisha's demand of special category status during the padayatra.

Acharya said the Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik would participate in the padayatra at Bhubaneswar on October 2. The march would conclude on October 11, coinciding with the birth anniversary of independence activist Jayprakash Narayan.

They said the objective of the programme is to create awareness among the people and inform them about the injustice being meted out to Odisha by the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.

Leaders of the regional party would also highlight the different achievements of the BJD government in the last 17 years, they said.

This apart, Mishra said, the BJD would also demand a hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy in the state, special category status, resolution to Polavaram issue and cut in fuel prices during the event.
