The opposition Congress and BJP today petitioned the Election Commission alleging misuse of ambulances and police vehicles for transporting money to candidates of the ruling BJD.

"The ruling party, which is trying to win the elections by hook or crook, is transporting money to every Assembly constituency using police vans and '108 Ambulance Services'," AICC Secretary and co-in-Charge for the party in Odisha Subhankar Sarkar alleged to Election Commissioners Nasim Ahmad Zaidi and Harishankar Brahma and Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Shukla.

"The money is being transported under the supervision of ADG Sanjiv Marik and DIG (Southern Range) Amitabh Thakur," he claimed.

Making a similar allegation, a delegation of BJP leaders alleged that volunteers of Bharat Nirman were being used by the BJD for helping its candidates.

"Sudden increase in the volunteer force from 5,000 in January to 48,000 in March raises many questions. Bharat Nirman Volunteers were created for spreading awareness of government welfare policies. However they are being used in a surrogate manner for mobilising voters," alleged BJP leader Samir Mohanty.

The BJP also raised doubt over the extension given to Nodal Officer in the State Election Office Naba Kumar Nayak.

"It is a blatant and flagrant violation, done at the instance of the ruling party. The BJP strongly expresses its displeasure and demands the removal of the biased official," a party release added.
