Gloating over the appointment of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as BJP's poll campaign committee chief, Congress MP Francisco Sardinha today said that saffron party has gone "eight feet down" by making such a move.

"Congress is so much happy. By selecting Narendra Modi as their campaign manager for Lok Sabha polls, the party (BJP) has gone eight feet down," Sardinha quipped while responding to a query by reporters here.

Sardinha represents South Goa Lok Sabha seat, which has pockets of minority community voters.

"Now we don't bother about BJP (in our constituency)," he said.

The senior Congress leader said he was "willing to re-contest from the same seat for Lok Sabha, provided party gives him the ticket."

When asked about his own colleagues clamouring for the South Goa ticket, Sardinha said this is not the first time that leaders are staking their claim.

Senior Congress leader Churchill Alemao has already begun lobbying for the South Goa seat of the party.

Sardinha refused to comment on Lok Sabha elections, saying, "I will talk about election only after my selection (for the ticket).
