A day after Congress activists held a protest outside the BJP office here, the party in a counter- attack accused Congress of adopting "double standards" in Jammu and Kashmir regions on the issue of beef party hosted by Independent MLA Engineer Rashid at MLA hostel in Srinagar.

"The recent incident of beef party at Srinagar has exposed Congress and the same is clear from duplicitous political activities under which it has one stand in Kashmir and another in Jammu province," BJP state spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan said.

Terming protests by Congress in Jammu as an attempt to mislead people, Rattan said the developments after the 'beef party' and the party's role have exposed it before the public.

"While the BJP MLAs took a firm stand to oppose the deprecatory and provocative action of Engineer Rashid, the Congressmen are protesting in Jammu for saving face and at the same time, its elected representatives and leaders have kept a conniving silence in Kashmir," Rattan said.

He said while the stand taken by the BJP in Kashmir, Jammu and other parts of the country has been principled and straight-forward and the conduct of the Congress has been opportunistic and without any moral "which is unfortunate and not a sign of healthy and constructive politics which is expected of a national party," he said.

He said the National Conference which has two MLAs from Jammu had introduced a bill in the House seeking to legalize the cow slaughter to pander to extremist elements in the Valley and its Jammu-based senior leaders are maintaining stoic silence.
