The ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh Wednesday accused the opposition Congress of indulging in violence during Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's ongoing 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra'.
The party said it has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) in this connection.
"The statement of state Congress chief Kamal Nath shows that his party resorted to stone-pelting and violence during the 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra'. We submitted a complaint to the Election Commission in this regard," BJP state vice president and MLA Rameshwar Sharma told reporters here.
On Monday night, police vehicles were pelted with stones in Ujjain district ahead of Chouhan's 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra'. One such incident had occurred in Sidhi district on September 2, in which stones were hurled at Chouhan's vehicle.
Talking about the incident, Kamal Nath had told reporters on Tuesday, "We condemn the incident. This is people's anger against the BJP rule. The government has not fulfilled its promises. Youths are not getting jobs."
He had also expressed apprehensions that such incidents are likely to occur in the future due to public anger.
Sharma said, "Kamal Nath had said that such incidents are likely to occur in future. Due to the CM's popularity and people's support to him, the Congress is desperate and resorting to violence."
The Congress, however, said the BJP government has failed to contain people's anger.
"Such incidents are failure of the BJP government in the state. They have entire police force and intelligence agency. BJP is accepting its government's failures," state Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said.
"Kamal Nath ji had condemned the incidents. But it has become BJP's habit to level false allegations," he added.
