The BJP today said it will not support a bandh call by opposition parties in Howrah to protest the killing of a youth by drunken men after he raised his voice against eve-teasing.

"Some parties are trying to take political advantage by calling a bandh. We are against it. We are not supporting it," BJP state president Rahul Sinha told reporters here.

He said the daily activities of people get affected by bandhs and they were against it.

Opposition parties like the Left Front, Congress and SUCI(C) have called a 12-hour Howrah district bandh in protest against the killing of Arup Bhandari.

Bhandari (20), a college student, was killed yesterday by some drunken youths in Howrah for protesting the lewd comments passed against two girls.

"The police has failed to arrest the culprits. This shows how inefficient our police and administration is," Sinha said while condemning the incident.
