The Virbhadra Singh government came under heavy fire from Opposition BJP in Himachal Pradesh Assembly today which alleged that the situation in the state has deteriorated and the government has failed to rein in the mafias.

The issue was raised by Mohinder Singh, Ravinder Singh Ravi and Suresh Bharadwaj (BJP) which followed heated exchange between BJP and Congress members.

Replying to the discussion, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said, "The officers who create hindrances or shirk work are not required" and claimed that no officer had been sent on deputation and those who have opted for deputation have gone on their own will.

He claimed that the government had taken effective steps to curb the activities of drug mafia and accused the previous BJP government of making false cases and acting in vengeance.

He said the government has taken steps against drug smugglers, checked smuggling of drugs from Punjab border and praised Kangra district police for dealing with drug mafia with a heavy hand.

Singh said the government was not afraid of debating any issue but regretted that the level of discussion has gone down which was insult to the house.

Heated exchanges between chief minister and leader of the opposition P K Dhumal were witnessed in the house when BJP member Randhir Sharma referred to cases registered against CM by CBI, Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax.

The Chief minister retorted that the cases were false and politically motivated and accused the former chief minister and his sons for the same.

He accused that the Dhumal government framed him in false cases but both the time he got clean chit from the Court.

Provoked by the remarks, Dhumal said the BJP government never made case against and it was UPA government which started enquiry against him when was Union minister of Steel.

He also took a jibe on the Chief Minister for claiming that he had been given clean chit by the court and said that infact Singh had instituted false cases against him and the case pertaining to retired IPS officer AN Sharma was dismissed by the High Court and Supreme Court.

Singh praised former BJP chief minister Shanta Kumar and said that he was decent person and never wreaked political vendetta against opponents.
