BJP today urged Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to ensure that police or administration does not harass the auto drivers and a centralised help line number is created to redress their grievances.

The Delhi unit of the party also demanded that there should be no bar on autos of Delhi to ply in NCR.

"An emergency meeting of the NCR Board should be called to ensure unhampered services of auto rickshaws in Delhi and NCR and it should also be ensured that the police or administration does not harass the auto drivers in any part of NCR," Vardhan urged LG.

Vardhan also said that a convenient number like '100' should be allotted for providing assistance in case of emergency so that if anybody demands bribe then auto drivers can directly complain to the LG Secretariat or CM Secretariat.

"Auto drivers are facing many problems every day. Auto stands have not been earmarked in Delhi. Autos registered in Delhi cannot ply in NCR area while Delhi Government has been termed as Government of National Capital Territory on all the Government papers," he also said.

The BJP leader also said that the actual cost of auto rickshaw in Delhi is about Rs 1.40 lakh, but in black market they are sold for Rs 3 lakh to Rs 3.50 lakh.

"The price of metre is Rs 7,000 but due to connivance between shopkeepers and the government, they recover Rs 18,000 for a meter. This exploitation of the auto drivers should be stopped immediately," he said.
