BJP today asked authorities to repair the Bhagwati Nagar bridge, the fourth bridge on river Tawi, and restore it for traffic following everyday snarls in the city.

BJP state President & MLA Sat Sharma inspected the work on the repair work of the bridge and asked Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Company (JKPCC) Managing Director Dalip Thussu to ensure repair of the bridge and restore it for traffic at the earliest, a BJP spokesman said.

Sharma, after inspection of the work related to repair of the damaged pillars which washed away the upper portion of the bridge, held discussions with senior officials of JKPCC and PWD and sought a progress report on the repair work.

He told the officials that there should be no compromise on the quality and round the clock work should be undertaken so that the traffic is restored the bridge, which caters to half of the vehicular traffic in South Jammu city, at the earliest.

He said departments concerned should ensure that new pillars should be constructed or repair work is undertaken.

The officials assured Sharma that one tube of the bridge will be made fit for traffic movement within next 15 days while the remaining work will also be completed soon.
