Claiming that absence of rain for months in Uttarakhand has destroyed crops on a large scale, opposition BJP today asked Chief Minister Harish Rawat to declare it a drought-stricken state.

In a letter to Rawat, Pradesh BJP President and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Bhatt said, "With no rain in Uttarakhand for months crops have been destroyed and farmers are facing an acute crisis."

"It has become difficult for them to arrange for seeds for the next crop. Those who had arranged for seeds for the last season by taking loans are on the verge of dying of hunger," he said.

Bhatt asked the Chief Minister to declare Uttarakhand a drought-hit state in view of the situation currently prevailing in the state.
