"The unprecedented grid failure is a result of negligence, incompetence and complete abdication of duty on the part of the central government. The central government is hiding some important facts which are the real cause of the grid failure," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said, while posing five questions to the government on the power grid failure in its attempt to pin the blame on the Centre.

He charged that the Centre was not accepting its "follies" and was instead diverting the country's attention by accusing some states for overdrawing power.

"BJP believes that this failure is the result of regulatory or administrative failure and not technical failure. The party will raise this issue in the ensuing monsoon session of Parliament so as to bring out the truth behind it," Javadekar said.

The party alleged that policy paralysis, failure to implement established schemes and lack of regulation was responsible for the blackout that affected 21 states and more than 60 crore people.

"Why did the central government not complete its 11th Five Year Plan as far as standardisation and integration of the modules in 16 states, which would have enabled load balancing? Why only Rs 1,000 crore was spent under this programme though the budget was Rs 16,000 crore?" Javadekar asked.
