BJP-backed candidate wins Ranchi mayoral polls

Asha Lakra today won the mayoral elections for Ranchi defeating her nearest rival Naveen Lakra by 14,969 votes.

Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Vinay Choubey announced the result and said a total of 2,922 voters preferred NOTA (none of the above).

The elections were held on June 23 with a mere 17.72 per cent polling.

Asha was supported by the BJP while Naveen was backed by Trinamool Congress though it was a non-political election with separate symbols being allotted to all 14 candidates in the fray.

Former mayor and Congress-backed Rama Khalkho finished fourth.
