BJP's central co-observer for West Bengal Sidharth Nath Singh today said that the Mamata Banerjee government must check the pre-panchayat poll violence and take help of the Central security forces in this regard.
Alleging that the state government had violated all democratic norms over the holding of the panchayat poll, Singh said that over nine political deaths, including that of a BJP candidate, had taken place.
Noting that free and fair elections are the essence of any democracy, the BJP leader said that though law and order is the state subject, "hooliganism and terrorism of TMC and Left cadres" had been creating panic in Bengal villages.
"This must be checked by the TMC government, and if required, by taking the help of the Central security forces," he said.
