The BJP today claimed that it was the only alternative to the ruling BJD in Odisha as the Congress was a "sinking party."

"BJP is the only alternative to the BJD in the state. The party is now preparing to face the next elections, including gram panchayat, civic bodies, state assembly and Lok Sabha by strengthening organizations at different levels," said party's leader and BJP in-charge of Odisha Arun Singh.

He said the party would launch membership drive from next January and tried to increase the party's member by ten folds this time in the state.

BJP state unit here reviewed causes of BJP candidates failure in the last elections in southern region of the state. There were five Lok Sabha seats and 35 assembly segments in this region of the state.

While blaming use of money and muscle power allegedly by the ruling BJD candidates, the BJP review revealed that there was lack of coordination among party's Lok Sabha and assembly candidates in some place, said Odisha unit president KV Singhdeo.

Singh, however, said the party would try to strengthen its organization by highlighting scams like mining, chitfund, coal and illegal land allotment. At the same time, party would also spread messages of achievements of Modi government at the Centre in the coming days, he said.

Patry's state unit president said involvement of the ruling party in multi-crore chit fund scam has now come out with the CBI launching raids. "We have earlier said there are 45 political leaders involved in the chitfund scam. Let us wait to know their names," he stated.
