: BJP, an alliance partner of ruling AINRC, today voiced concern over 'failure' of police to curb crimes which they alleged have been on the increase for some months now.

M Visweswaran, party's local unit president and nominated legislator in the Assembly, said sale of banned raffle tickets had been taking place. Though police could have been aware of it, no action had been taken to bring to book those involved.

Visweswaran urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to gear up police machinery to keep constant vigil to prevent crimes, which he alleged were on the increase.

He said whatever criticism BJP was making was with good intentions to ensure the government machinery functioned well.

He condemned the recent attack on BJP office here by y Congress activists and said police should arrest some other party functionaries who instigated the attack, which was against some comments by Union Minister Giriraj Singh against AICC leader Sonia Gandhi.
