BJP today condemned spot-fixing in IPL matches and demanded that along with strict action against the guilty, steps should be taken to prevent recurrence of such cases.

"BJP condemns spot-fixing in IPL matches. This is very unfortunate.... Legal action should be taken against those found guilty. Spot-fixing is not good for the game of cricket or for the country," party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters here.

He said BCCI, which conducts the IPL matches, should take effective measures to prevent recurrence of such spot-fixing.

Three cricketers, including bowler S Sreesanth, have been arrested for spot-fixing in the IPL matches.

The party, however, dismissed questions on whether politicians should be a part of cricket administration bodies like BCCI.

"The politicians who are part of bodies that administer various games are also citizens and have a right to be a part of these organisations. They have a love for these games. They are also big leaders in their own right who have contributed to building of stadiums not only in the plains but also in the hills," Hussain said.

BJP leaders Arun Jaitley, Anurag Thakur and Kirti Azad are involved in cricket bodies while Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly V K Malhotra heads the Archery Association of India.
