Ruling BJP and Opposition in Goa were today engaged in a war of words over switching of loyalty by former Power Minister Mauvin Godinho.
Godinho resigned as Congress MLA and quit the party and joined BJP last week. The switching of allegiance by the former Minister came just ahead of the Assembly polls expected in the first quarter of 2017.
The verbal duel between both parties started when Goa Congress President Luizinho Faleiro thanked BJP for taking away "garbage" from the party, a reference to Godinho.

"It is really sad that Congress has termed Godinho as garbage. He had been their leader for 15 years and their representative from the Dabolim assembly constituency," Parsekar said addressing 'Vijay Sankalp' rally at St Cruz constituency near here.
"Congress finds such leaders as garbage but BJP knows how to turn garbage into gold. We know how to convert garbage into manure and generate energy from it," Parsekar said.
Reacting to Parsekar's remark, Goa Congress spokesman Sunil Kawathankar said, "We congratulate honorable Chief Minister for agreeing that Godinho is garbage. Whether they recycle it into manure or worship it, it is their problem."
Godinho left Congress on December 17, the day when party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally in the BJP-led State, and joined the saffron outfit.
