A case has been registered against a BJP corporator from Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) for allegedly assaulting a civic engineer, police said today.

The corporator, Moreshwar Bhoir, allegedly slapped and manhandled KDMC Deputy Engineer Yogendra Rathod at the latter's office in Manpada around noon yesterday, the police said.

Rathod lodged a complaint against the corporator, following which a case was registered late last night.

"In his complaint, Rathod said that the corporator came to his office and questioned him about some file. Later, the corporator abused and slapped him. He also pulled the file from his hand and tore it off," police said.

In the complaint, Rathod claimed that Bhoir was irked over civic action against illegal works in his area, police said.

Police have booked Bhoir under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Section 7 of Criminal Law (Amendment) Act and also section 3 of the Prevention Of Damage To Public Property Act has also been invoked against him, police said.

Meanwhile, as a mark of protest against the alleged assault on Rathod, around 100 engineers of the KDMC struck work today.

During the general body meeting in KDMC held today, several corporators also raised this issue.
