A BJP corporator, accused of assaulting a journalist, was remanded in 14-day judicial custody by a local court.
"Senior BJP corporator Ashish Tamrakar, accused of thrashing a journalist - Praveen Tripathi - surrendered before the police on Friday late night after absconding for nearly two months," a senior police official said.
"On Saturday, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate GK Neelam rejected his bail plea and sent him to 14 days' judicial custody," the official added.

Later, protests were held by the local scribes demanding immediate arrest of the corporator.
A case was registered under section 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 307 (attempt to murder) and 342 (wrongful confinement) against 15 people, including Tamrakar, the official said, adding, "three attackers had already been arrested in this connection."
As per the statement of the journalist, the corporator was enraged with the news of the alleged corruption and irregularities in RMC recently published by him.
