Vijay Raj Jaiswal (35), a BJP corporator from ward number 65, was shot at late last night when he had gone to meet a friend in Hydel Colony, police said.
He was rushed to district hospital from where he was referred to BRD Medical College, they said.
Election-related rivalry was stated to be the reason behind the incident, police said.
An FIR has been lodged by the victim's relatives against two persons in the case, they said.
