A delegation of state unit of BJP is on a visit to Kashmir to assess the post-floods situation in different parts of the Valley.

"A high-level team of BJP, led by state president and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, has been sent to Kashmir for assessment of the post-floods situation in different parts of the Valley," BJP spokesman Balbir Ram Rattan said today.

Other members of the team are leader of BJP Legislative Party Ashok Khajuria, J&K election campaign committee chairman Nirmal Singh, state spokesperson Farooq Khan, senior leader Lal Singh, state convener of Ex-Servicemen Cell Brig Anil Gupta, and MLA Baldev Raj Sharma.

Balbir said the team, soon after its arrival at Srinagar, extensively toured Nudras Colony, Bemina, Lal Chowk, Jawahar Nagar, Mandir Bagh and over half a dozen other areas of the city, where they interacted with the local people and listened to their grievances.

The team will also meet the party's local leaders and activists to have first hand information. It will also visit other areas of Kashmir to take stock of the damage and losses caused by the rains and resultant floods, the spokesman said.

State BJP chief Sharma assured the people that his party stands with them in this hour of grief and sorrow and that "we will not rest till last affected family is rehabilitated".

He said the people have complaints against the state administration as in many areas no relief has reached yet and stressed upon the government to gear up its machinery to help the people.

Nirmal Singh said the natural calamity has caused immense losses of precious lives, besides causing damages to houses, business establishments, roads, bridges, etc. He assured the people that a detailed report will be prepared to be submitted to the Centre highlighting the problems of the people.

Singh said BJP would take up the same with the local administration also for relief distribution on war footing and earliest rehabilitation before the onset of winter.

Ashok Khajuria also expressed his concern over the delay in providing relief to the affected families. Lal Singh said that if the state government still do not wake up and come forward to help people, it will have to pay heavy price in near future as the people have anger and resentment against the Omar Abdullah-led coalition government.
