Alleging inconvenience and hardships to Shimla residents due to implementation of Road Safety Act, Himachal BJP today demanded suitable amendments in it to save the people from "undue harassment".
"The Road safety Act, which meant to smoothen traffic within Shimla town, has become bane of locals and people in several areas like Jakoo, US club, Boileauganj are not able to take the vehicles to their residences as barriers have been erected at various locations barring entry of vehicles without permits," State BJP spokesman Ganesh Dutt said.
He claimed,"even the roads leading to hospitals have not been spared and people are not allowed to ply without permits and said the Shimla Sanitarium hospital was example of it".

Dutt urged the government to convene a meeting of prominent citizens including advocates, media persons and other stakeholders to suggest amendments to the Act to avoid inconvenience.
"The police was stopping the vehicles on restricted and sealed roads on the orders of the High Court and unless the Act is suitably amended, there would be no solution to the problem," he added.
Dutt said that the government has passed the Act in haste without taking into consideration the fall out of such an act on the local people.
He alleged that the Act has become bane for senior citizens who are unable to walk and now the facility of using their own vehicle is also being denied to them.
