BJP today took out a rally and gheraoed the office of Director General of Police at the police headquarters demanding immediate arrest and prosecution of suspended IPS officer Satish Gajbhiye for acting in an unprofessional manner and unleashing a reign of terror.

Slogan shouting BJP activists congregated near the police headquarters while police had promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC around the DGP's office.

A 24-member delegation led by BJP state unit president K V Singhdeo submitted a memorandum to DGP Sanjeev Marik urging him to initiate criminal proceedings against the former Kendrapara SP and treat the three-page memorandum as evidence against him.

Speaking to mediapersons after meeting the BJP delegates, Marik said the memorandum would be examined and appropriate steps taken as per law.

On last week's turmoil in Kendrapara leading to the state- wide public protest against self-styled godman Santosh Roul alias Sarathi Baba, the memorandum alleged that the then Kendrapara SP acted in an unprofessional manner and unleashed a reign of terror by assaulting the protestors.

"Even school and college bound students, innocent and handicapped public, and women were subjected to unprovoked and unlawful police lathicharge and highhandedness," it claimed and alleged that the SP was leading this excess.

Alleging that the 2002-batch IPS officer was a habitual offender and earned public ire wherever he was posted in the State, the BJP memorandum claimed that Gajbhiye has had close links with the godman.

It also alleged Gajbhiye had amassed property disproportionate to his known sources of income.
