Buoyed by his party's victory in bypolls in two MCD seats, Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel today said people in the national capital have "rejected" Congress and demanded Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's resignation.

"The writing is on the wall, people of Delhi have rejected Congress...Congress had termed these bypolls as semi- final before the assembly elections. People have defeated them in semi-final and they would receive even a greater drubbing in coming assembly polls," Goel said.

"If they (Congress) are left with even an iota of morality, the Chief Minister should immediately step down after this drubbing as she herself termed it to be a referendum on her government's performance," he said

BJP today won the by-elections held for MCD wards Nangloi East and Yamuna Vihar. The voting was held on Sunday.

Claiming that the victory will boost moral of BJP cadres ahead of the assembly polls, Goel said power and water tariff hike was one of the key issues in the election and Congress should take this defeat as a wake up call to serve the people better.

"If BJP comes to power, we will reduce power tariff by 30 per cent. We would soon come up with a ten-point programme to bring power tariff down in the national capital," he said.

On when he will form his new team of office bearers at the state level, Goel said the new team will be announced "within a week".
