Uttar Pradesh BJP today demanded a judicial or CBI probe into the mob violence and police firing in Hamirpur in which two villagers were killed after a girl immolated herself on being teased by some youths.

UP BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpai said there should be judicial or CBI probe into the incident as magisterial probe will not uncover the truth and added that a strict disciplinary action should be taken against administration and police officials.

He was speaking to reporters in Kanpur after finishing his tour of Hamirpur where two villagers were killed in violence and subsequent police firing when they tried to gherao the Biwanr police station on Saturday to lodge FIR against an eve-teasing accused, who allegedly abetted suicide of a 15-year-old girl.

Blaming the police for handling the situation badly, Bajpai said the girl committed suicide due to the failure of the administration.

The BJP state chief alleged that the police fired upon parents of the deceased girl and beat up other family members and added that the girl's body was immersed in river Yamuna and not cremated.

Terming the law and order situation in the state as "ruined", Bajpai said the safety of women was compromised, forcing them to commit suicide as police and administrative officials are protecting the criminals, Bajpai alleged.

The girl was allegedly molested by some youths on Saturday and was also beaten up for offering resistance. She later immolated herself, after narrating the incident to her family, police said.
