"We condemn the attack on Lt Gen Brar in London...His safety should be ensured," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.
The main opposition party alleged that Brar's security was not being handled in the right way and he should be provided adequate protection.
Congress, meanwhile, said it is watching the situation.
Asked if the Khalistan movement is growing in Punjab and if there is connection between it and the attack on Brar, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said, "There is an investigation unfolding at the moment in London. Let it fructify."
Brar, 78, was attacked by some men, suspected to be Khalistan sympathisers, with knives while he was leaving a hotel in London with his wife. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.
