BJP today slammed Aligarh Muslim University's recent decision to make elementary Urdu mandatory in all undergraduate courses and demanded that the move be immediately withdrawn.

"The decision to introduce the course in elementary Urdu is an attempt to deprive students of the majority community from taking admission in AMU," said state BJP president, Laxmikant Bajpai.

The university had earlier this week introduced the compulsory course for all undergraduate students from the current academic session.

The BJP leader also spoke out against the three-tier reservation system introduced by the UP Public Service Commission and condemned the police lathicharge on students who were demonstrating against the decision earlier this week in Allahabad.
