An Islampur court Tuesday
granted bail to BJP North Dinajpur district president Shankar Chakraborty who was arrested for reportedly making provocative comments against security forces.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Islampur, Mahua Basu Roy granted bail to Chakraborty in the case on two personal sureties of Rs 2,500 each.
The police had arrested Chakraborty on Sunday under Section 505(1)(b) (intent to incite any class or community to commit any offence against any other class or community) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, while addressing villagers, had asked them to take action against security forces in North Dinajpur, where two students died in a clash with police over teachers' recruitment in a high school.
He also suggested putting up barricades to prevent the entry of police personnel in the area.
Chakraborty, however, will have to stay in jail as the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), North Dinajpur, Suresh Singh Tuesday rejected his bail application in another case.
