CPI(M) state secretary Surya Kanta Mishra Wednesday alleged that the BJP government is against the idea of India and by bifurcating Jammu and Kashmir into union territories, the saffron camp has done more harm than any good to the country.

The CPI(M) along with its other West Bengal Left Front partners took out a rally in the city during the day to protest against abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir as union territories.

"It is universally acknowledged that the unity of India lies in its diversity. The BJP government is against this principle of diversity and the federal principle. They are treating Jammu & Kashmir as occupied territory," the CPI (M) state secretary said.

The BJP is disregarding constitution and its provisions and are converting J&K into centrally ruled union territories. By doing this they are not integrating India but dividing it, he alleged.

The bond between people of Jammu & Kashmir with the rest of India should have been through the process of political dialogue with all stakeholders. But, the government took an unilateral step which will only deepen the divide, CPI leader Prabir Deb said.
