BJP today flayed the Congress government for hiking the house tax', saying the decision had inflicted 'hardships' on the people.

The Party's local unit president and nominated legislator V Saminathan said in a release that the Congress government had increased the tax by 50 per cent. This has had a cascading effect with property owners raising house rent, he said.

He said that the BJP would stage an agitation here on August 17 to protest against the hike in the tax, which was 'unethical' and 'uncalled for,' he said and demanded that it be rolled back.

The government had not collected taxes and duties from industrialists and realtors, he said.
