The BJP today said it will urge Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to post Assam Rifles as 'neutral force' by replacing CRPF, which failed to prevent violence along the state's border with Nagaland.

"We will keep people's demand and request before Rajnath Singh to withdraw the CRPF from the disputed land and post Assam Rifles there," BJP National Secretary Ramen Deka told reporters here.

Deka, who is a Lok Sabha MP, also said, "We will meet Rajnath Singh after going from here and will demand setting up of a Commission to enquire into the entire series of violence."

Yesterday Deka and his party colleague and Lok Sabha MP Bijoya Chakravarty visited the affected people in relief camps, where their convoy was attacked by villagers.

Chakravarty said Nagaland Police had set up outposts and developed infrastructure in the disputed land and the Tarun Gogoi government has done nothing to stop it.

"If Nagaland can set up police outposts there, why can't Assam set up the same?" she said.

When asked if it was the Centre's responsibility to prevent activities by Nagaland as the land is disputed and the matter is sub-judice, she did not reply and left the press conference in a huff.

She also did not reply when asked if the BJP supports Assam setting up police outposts in disputed land illegally like Nagaland as she claimed.

Chakravarty further said Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was "telling a lie" by saying that the Centre was not taking the matter seriously.
