Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today accused the BJP of betraying the people of Uttar Pradesh by doing nothing for the state in more than two years since it came to power at the Centre.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating Aala Hazrat Haj House here, he said the the voters in Uttar Pradesh gave the BJP 73 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats.

However, Rs 9,000 crore were slashed from the state's fund by the Niti Aayog under the NDA rule which has hampered the development works in the state, he said.

He said while the Bahujan Samaj Party, during its rule, in the state had "wasted money" on building parks and elephant statues, the BJP has also "failed" to work for development of Uttar Pradesh.

He also accused a section of media of "only highlighting" the news related to crime in the state, where, he claimed, the situation is far better than many states.

Meanwhile, a group led by state Congress Organising Secretary Narendra Rathi was detained at Sahibabad by police when they were heading to Haj House to hand over a memorandum demanding to establish a government girls inter college.
