West Bengal Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim today said the opposition BJP was trying to project a wrong image of law and order in the state as stray incidents were reported from only 2-3 places and the process of formation of board was by and large peaceful.
He alleged that the attackers sheltered by CPI(M) in the past have now become "murderers" sheltered by the BJP.
"A handful of these people have been brought to 2-3 places where they are creating trouble. In thousands of other pockets, panchayat board formation is being done in a peaceful manner," Hakim told reporters at the state secretariat.
On the violence in North 24 Pargsnas, where the car of the local MLA was allegedly attacked yesterday, Hakim said the state government has given a free hand to the police to find out those involved in the clash without taking into account which party they belonged to.
On the recruitment of administrator in Chandernagore Municipal Corporation, removing the Chairman, he said "We have appointed the administrator despite the corporation board run by our party Trinamool Congress. Those who will fail to perform, will be removed.
