Criticising Congress leader Karan Singh for equating Jammu and Kashmir with Hong Kong, BJP today dubbed his statement as the "most unfortunate, dangerous and unwarranted", saying the Indian state is not Hong Kong.

"We are shocked and dismayed over senior Congress leader Karan Singh's outrageous statement equating the duly-acceded J&K to India with Hong Kong," State BJP chief and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma said at a public rally in Vijaypur of Samba district.

"His statement is the most unfortunate, dangerous and unwarranted as Jammu and Kashmir is not Hong Kong," Sharma said while referring to the need of debate over Article 370.

"Karan Singh has only negated the splendid contribution of Maharaja Hari Singh to the state's accession with India by making such ridiculous statement," he said, adding the former Sadar-e-Riyasat has shocked the people of the state and the country as a whole.

"Jammu and Kashmir is neither Hong Kong nor Trieste and Aaland Islands. It is an integral part of India and will be treated at par with other states of the Union," BJP state president said.
