The BJP today said that former minister Fransisco Miccky Pacheco should be allowed to participate in the upcoming State Legislative Assembly session beginning from July 27.

"I don't think he should be stopped from attending the session. He is representing his constituency and there are several issues from that area that needs to be discussed in the House," BJP Goa Unit President Vinay Tendulkar told reporters today.

He said in past several leaders including Madhu Koda was allowed to participate in the proceedings despite being imprisoned.

Tendulkar said it is for the Speaker and state government to take the decision whether to allow him to attend or not. The State Legislative Assembly session has been called between July 27-August 14.

Responding to another question, Tendulkar said the party has no stand on the mercy petition filed by Pacheco.

"The government will have to go through the report by authorities before deciding on his petition. His behavior should be verified," he said.

Pacheco has been jailed for six months after being convicted for slapping a junior engineer in 2006.
