The Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP today launched its 'Maha Sampark Abhiyan' here to connect with the newly-enrolled members and motivate them to actively participate in various activities of the party.

The mass contact programme was launched by BJP state president and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Union Minister of State for PMO Jitendra Singh, MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, besides other senior leaders who were also present on the occasion.

The senior BJP leaders visited the homes of all the new members and interacted with them.

"BJP is a cadre-based organisation and not a family party. It has internal democracy... A simple ground-level worker could also lead the party," BJP leader and the state campaign incharge Karan Singh said.

The party claimed that over seven lakh people from Jammu have joined its fold under the membership drive.

"Under the party's membership drive, BJP has enrolled seven lakh people into BJP fold and credit goes to the party's active cadres," BJP Rajya Sabha MP Shamsher Singh Manhas said.

In his address, BJP state president Sharma said, "It is a matter of pride that the party has become the largest political party in the world after successful conclusion of BJP membership drive".

He said the Abhiyan launched by BJP chief Amit Shah will further strengthen the party at the grassroot level.

Later, after conclusion of the programme, various teams under 'Maha Sampark Abhiyan' left for different areas to meet the newcomers and welcome them in the party.

BJP has claimed that the party's membership in the country has reached around 10.5 crore, making it the "largest party" in the world. It has also claimed a membership of 14.74 lakh in Jammu and Kashmir.
